Humanitarian Terry Waite CBE is urging the public to vote for Independent Candidates on May 6. Independents offer the only alternative to party political candidates.
In an open letter to the electorate, Waite said today:
“Now is the chance for us, the voting public to strike a blow for freedom. Parliament is too important to be left in the hands of the unreformed Political Parties. Our vote for an Independent Candidate will demonstrate clearly that we want good governance and that we are determined to have it by giving opportunity for free voices to echo through the chambers of Westminster.
“Parliament has been abused by many of our elected representatives. In turn, we as ordinary voters have been mocked. I will not repeat the long list of abuse we have witnessed. It is known to us all.
“Today, as Political Parties attempt to win our vote with honeyed words and promises of utopia, today is the time when we need to exercise our critical judgement.
Parliament needs reforming. I cannot pretend that an Independent Candidate alone will be able to undertake such a massive task. I do believe however that a group of Independent Candidates, acting together to reform Parliament and voting according to their Independent position at least stand a chance of edging this process forward.”
Waite, along with former independent MP Martin Bell OBE, is supporting the Independent Network, an organisation that provides support and a national voice to Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPC) who do not belong to a political party. The Independent Network gives credibility by endorsing PPCs so the electorate know that each individual has been impartially assessed to be good quality representatives. The Independent Network does not impose any political views on the individuals it supports.
The Independent Network has endorsed 46 candidates for the upcoming election and Waite is urging the public to show their support to those candidates and elect a Parliament that truly represents the people.
