Speed Cameras

The speed camera. One of the most hated inventions of all time, second only to the nuclear bomb...

Well maybe they're not quite that bad, but its fair to say that they're not universally popular in the UK. Any policy that reduces the way speed cameras gradually criminalise everybody is likely to have mass appeal...!

So what would happen if we stopped routinely prosecuting motorists photographed doing 35mph in a 30 limit, but merely used speed camera's to collect evidence which would only be used if there was an accident...?

Not just in the serious cases where prosecutions are brought, but also where insurance companies are trying to establish blame for the accident...?

And I'm just talking about the omnipresent speed cameras here. I think we should retain the traditional threat of the Police pulling you over and nicking you if they see you doing 35mph (or more) in a 30 limit...

Re: Speed Cameras

If used properly the speed camera would have been a respected tool of road safety, however it became an easy source of fund raising and has been over used. In places of frequent accidents they are a sensible way of trying to ensure drivers slow down.

The other annoying "road safety measure" that annoys me is the growth of the 20 mph speed limit. People have lost the ability to think and take care of themselves. Pedestrians seem to no longer understand the need to look before crossing. They are too busy on their mobile phones and listening to their MP3s.

I am not a fan of the proliferation of the speed camera either TGR.
