Down but not out!
Four candidates who'd never challenged the system before. One former town cllr re-elected but lost battle for a district council seat. I failed to break through at District level but polled more than some party candidates in near constituencies. Two town candidates missed out by narrow margins. Rome was not built in a day. Depoliticising the local councils will take a long time and breaking the mind set of the tribal voters will only happen slowly. There is a case for developing the Young Independents. Only the youth effectively rebel against the status quo. That what grew the LIB DEMs and the Greens. 4 candidates polled 1400 votes of independently minded people, so something to build on. It is clear that Independents need a higher national profile and the IN has it's work cut out to get attention.
