Biography

Gordon had no interest in politics until the summer of 2009 when the scandals of MPs’ expenses and lack of equipment for British troops emerged in the media. He believes that the incumbent MP doesn't fully represent the electorate or their common values and therefore decided to stand for Parliament in the 2010 elections.

Gordon has lived in Dagenham for ten years, before that he lived in Seven Kings after moving to England in 1989. He was born in Clydebank, Scotland and later moved to Blairmore, Argyll. After leaving school he worked mainly in timber extraction and in the local ceramics industry. He was previously a member of the local Territorial Army.

He left Scotland to study Engineering and worked in a succession of manual and administrative jobs in various industries in England over 20 years ago. When he started a family, Gordon chose to work for a small local company and spend more time at home.

Gordon enjoys outdoor pursuits such as hiking the West Highland Way and also enjoys Judo and Horse Riding.

Main Issues

Reform of Parliament

Incorporating the Bell principles into protocols of government, implementing the same standards of accountability for expenses as are imposed on civil servants.

Finance

Give greater control of UK banking to the Bank of England. Reform of the banking industry with stricter controls on audit of financial products, ensuring that the interests of the country as a whole are not risked by private corporations.

Human Rights and European Union

Promotion of a scheme to certify imports into the EU to declare that the country of origin complies with the Universal Charter on Human Rights, allowing the consumer a clear opportunity to have the choice to not support certain regimes.

Immigration

A referendum on an ‘Immigration Charter ‘ outlining in simple terms the ways and means of managing specific numbers of immigrants that works for the long term interests of all those in the UK.

Cooperatives

We need government support and assistance for cooperatives of small traders in local communities to compete with large national and international cooperatives.

Police

I advocate a small percentage of new police officers post probation to be spent in schools assisting with extra curricular activities and acting as role models.

ID Cards

If ID Cards are required I can only see them useful to collate and record the time and activity of those who involve themselves in audited community projects, in order that local councils can suitably reward them.
