Biography

Cllr Fred Wildgust is from a mining family and previously worked for the National Coal Board as a faceworker. This gave him a unique insight into the social and economic issues facing Welsh Valley mining communities. He later left the mining industry and attended Aberystwyth University. He immediately fell in love with Wales and decided to make it his family home - he says 'it is a magical place with amazing people.'

I owe Wales a huge debt of gratitude - it has provided me with my education, employment, skills, business opportunities, a political career and friendships. It is now time for me to repay that debt by working as a representative of the people of Torfaen that will right the wrongs of decades of political apathy and poor local government.

Main Issues

1.To break the political link between Torfaen's Labour MP and the Labour led council to ensure that transparency, openness exist in all transactions and dealings of the council and services are improved. This will be achieved by holding the council to account and challenging the decisions made by Councillors and officers.

2.To implement a strategy to develop the local economy by the creation of entrepreneurial culture within the borough and establish an effective tourism strategy that will create wealth through inward investment and spending. Removing Torfaen's dependence on the service sector economy.

3.Work at a national level to stimulate governmental interest in the creation of bio-fuel from organic waste and green matter. Thus reducing the nations dependence on imported fuel from the middle east and eastern block nations.

4.End the investment in Trident and reinvest the monies in ground troops and an anti-cyber terrorism task force

5.Fight to ensure that residents within Wales have full access to treatments and services used by Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) monitored individuals. This will end the secrecy surrounding the use of MAPPA with our communities.
